The Department of English Language & Literature is one of the leading departments of the newly established university, The University of Swabi for Women. It was established in 2013. It was at first affiliated with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University. The university has been set up to cater the needs of the female population of, The Land of WisdomÂ, Swabi in particular and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa in general.
The Department of English Language & Literature aims to produce empowered and confident women learners with strong oral and written skills in English which will help them to fulfill their economic and socio-cultural needs and also instill a creative, logical and philosophical fusion of mind which will enable them to think independently and critically.
Vision
The Department envisions female students with an extensive understanding of the world and its diverse cultures through their critical, analytical, confident, and keen perception which they will gain from the courses offered and will be able to express it boldly and precisely in various media using English language.
We seek to inculcate love for knowledge and research among the females of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. We will also make the students to communicate effectively and boldly in all genres. Furthermore, we also envision students with broad horizon, empowered with the knowledge and to utilize it creatively and critically. At last, we envision students equipped with creativity and productivity so that they can be creators and researchers. To meet these objectives we will strive hard to provide the essential knowledge to the students through comprehensive and broad curriculum.
Mission
It is goal of The Department of English Language & Literature to provide voice to the women learners of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa so that they can express themselves in multiple genres of English language and literature with self-confidence and precision.
The department offers courses that develop students' understanding of English language and various genres of literature. The courses also prepare students for further studies in the arts and humanities and give them a solid foundation in the English language used for worldwide communication in their profession. With a diverse and a comprehensive curriculum, it is made sure that the students are equipped with the best theoretical and practical knowledge during the course of their degree. The faculty endeavours hard to ensure that they do not compromise on the goals, which are:
1. To develop confidence in female students
2. To enhance students' oral and written communication skills
3. To develop students' ability to use English fluently and accurately
4. To prepare students to think critically and to view and analyze information objectively as well as subjectively
5. To develop students' ability to produce information from a variety of disciplines in order to promote independent thought and creative ideas
