Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and is taught as a compulsory subject in various disciplines. Keeping in view its significance, the Department of Urdu was established at Women University Swabi in its early days. The department sharpens the intellect of female students in Urdu Language and Literature, offering BS Urdu and MA Urdu programs, with MPhil Urdu also initiated for national and international students. Its scheme of studies covers research, criticism, linguistics, and comparative literature, combining traditional and contemporary models. The department actively engages in seminars, conferences, and community participation, with qualified faculty committed to preparing students to play a constructive role in the development and prosperity of the homeland.
Urdu is not merely a language but holds ideological significance for Pakistan. The Department of Urdu aims to meet emerging challenges and establish Urdu as an international language of science, technology, politics, and culture.
The mission of the Department of Urdu is to instill a spirit of critical inquiry in students, enabling them to go beyond parochial surroundings and develop analytical skills to situate themselves in broader social, cultural, political, and ideological contexts. Through quality education in literature, the department strives to prepare students to face contemporary challenges and play a pivotal role in leading and serving humanity.
